Our Reflections
Everyday practice is built on a safeguarding-first culture, consistent support, training and supervision, and partnership working around each young person.
“Safeguarding is the baseline. We keep clear systems for reporting and responding to concerns so young people feel protected and able to thrive.”
“Consistency builds trust. When support is respectful and reliable, young people start to believe stability is possible.”
“Outcomes are practical: budgeting, cooking, keeping appointments. We repeat the basics until they become confidence.”
“Trauma-informed practice means we create calm, understanding environments and plan with the young person—so goals feel realistic and achievable.”
“Partnership working matters. We coordinate with professionals and services so the young person isn’t navigating alone.”
When I first moved to a SYF home I was scared,
I thought nobody wanted me and nobody cared.
I was always worried I wouldn’t fit in here,
So, for a while I lived in constant fear.
When times were feeling too tricky, I knew I could come to you
when things began to feel very risky. when times were feeling
dark and I couldn’t see the light, SYF taught me to be strong
and never to give up the fight.
Facing loads of challenges every day,
but you all supported me through it either way.
you had faith and strength in me when I could
not cope, you were my guidance and gave me hope.
When I felt afraid and alone,
I knew you were all there in not just person but
at the end of the phone. there are so many
things this place has taught me, and helped me
to discover parts of me and things I’d never
thought I would see!
